The sparkle of a diamond on the big screen

Beauty is everywhere on the big screen. Whether it is in the form of a pretty or handsome actor, beautiful locations or the sparkle of some incredible jewellery items, films seem to lend themselves to the visually spectacular. In particular diamond jewellery often makes an appearance on the film set.

Here are some of the top film scenes that include the appearance of some of the most exquisite gems that we find in the ground far beneath our feet.

  • Sex and the City 2 – In the second Sex and the City film after waiting for what seems like an eternity Mr Big presents Carrie with a beautiful diamond engagement ring. • How to lose a guy in 10 days – The film centres around the relationship that blooms between Matthew McConaghy’s character Ben and Kate Hudson’s character Andie after each of them make a bet with their employers to win key accounts. Ben bids for a diamond account by telling his boss he can make a woman fall in love with him in 10 days. Coincidentally Andie bets her boss that she can find and lose a guy in 10 days. In one notable scene Andie is presented with an impressive diamond necklace known as the Isadora Diamond to wear with its film designer saying to her “A woman in love wants chocolate. A woman in love wants diamonds.”
  • Titanic – This iconic film centres around the passengers on the ill-fated maiden voyage of the Titanic as well as a love relationship that develops between Kate Winslet’s character Rose and Leonardo Di Caprio’s character Jack. One of the most loved scenes sees Rose posing for Jack who is creating a portrait of her. She is wearing nothing but the diamond necklace that was given to her by her boyfriend as an engagement present. The ‘Heart of the Ocean’ diamond is a brilliant blue colour and is a 56-carat diamond that was originally owned by Louis XVI.

  • Gentleman Prefer Blondes – one of the most iconic scenes in this film is the diamond dance where Marilyn, dressed in bright pink body fitting dress, sings and dances amongst a group of men dressed in black suits. She is bejewelled with diamond necklaces, earrings and bracelets.

Diamonds will always have a place in major Hollywood productions and often adorn some of the most beautiful and high-profile actresses in the business and will continue to do so far into the future.
