If international travel is fairly new to you, Spain is a great place to get started with figuring out how to travel.
Here are some reasons why Spain is a great vacation destination:
The Mediterranean Coast is Paradise
Long stretches of white sandy beaches can be found all along Spain. Cozy coves and teal blue waters are a sun worshippers dream. One of the great things about Spain is no matter when you are able to get your vacation time, almost any time is a good time of year to travel in Spain. The country enjoys a relatively year round mild climate. On average they receive over 300 days of sunshine. That means you have a good probability of catching up on that Vitamin D. The beaches are also outstanding. Spain has approximately 577 beaches that have been awarded blue flag status. This means that all of those beaches are guaranteed to have a high water quality for swimming. Most of those beaches ae also accessible to people with disabilities. This puts Spain at the top of world rankings for having the most accessible beaches.
Spain is home to some of the world’s best known and loved artists not to mention top notch galleries and museums. Here visitors can get an inside look into Salvador Dali’s home. There is something so fascinating about being able to take a peek at how a famous artist lived. Plenty of people also go to Malaga. This is the birth place of Pablo Picasso. There is a museum here with some 300 pieces of his work on display. If you at all have the chance to go, the Guggenheim Bilbao is an absolutely stunning museum. This vibrant place was designed to help the visitor enjoy the art from both the inside and out. The Frank Gehry designed gallery is also a must see.
With decades of artist influence and design, Spain is not short on being able to offer outstanding places to stay. Many savvy travelers are picking up on the trend to travel with a group of friends or family and split the cost of renting private accommodation. By doing so guests still get all the creature comforts of home but with some more lavish amenities to remind you that yes, you are in fact on vacation. You can choose from prime beach front locations or be tucked away up in the hills surrounded by ancient groves of trees. There is something so dreamy about being able to say to your friends back home that you are off to Spain and staying in a private villa. No matter what you decide on, Spain has some wonderful accommodation offerings for its visitors.
The Food and Wine
Its reputation holds strong that Spain has some of the best food and wine in the world. Spaniards love their wine. They drink it with lunch, with dinner, before bed and any other time that seems to call for the occasion. If you have never dabbled that much in wine and are curious what you might like, Spain is an excellent place to experiment. Here everyone can enjoy fine wine at a decent price. The dining options are also phenomenal. One of Spain’s claims to fame is the restaurant Casa Botin. This is the world’s oldest continuous running restaurant having been in operation since 1725. The painter Goya used to be a waiter there. If you do get a chance to go, definitely try the pig roast. Another famous restaurant is the El Cellar de Can Roca. In 2013 this restaurant won the prestigious award of best restaurant in the world. If you can’t get a table there, simply enjoy wandering the streets and peeking your head into all sorts of other quaint restaurants. You will surely find something to enjoy.
Admirers of architecture love going to Spain. The entire country has so many different styles and influences. Visitors can see Moorish, Romanesque, Gothic and other styles as well. If you want to see a real life Roman structure still in use, check out the Roman Theater in Merida which is still actively used for performances. So many beautiful cathedrals also dot the country. The Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela is a place of international pilgrimage. Mosques also add variety to the culture. One of significant note is the Mezquita in Cordoba. This Mosque is unique in all of Europe and have been a world heritage site since 1984. Another structure of interest is the Egyptian temples in the center of Madrid. Many visitors do not expect to see this in Spain. The Egyptians did not live in Spain. They did however gift the Temple of Debod to the city in 1968. With all the varied architecture, simply wandering the streets around Spain is an activity in and of itself.
