Buying Gifts for Mothers

It’s that time of year again when Christmas is approaching and there is a long list of people that you need to buy for. Some folk are really easy, but others can be an absolute nightmare – it’s not that they have everything, they just seem content to not get anything. For most people their mothers fall into this category, so here’s a list of cool ideas that you can buy for mom, to surprise her when it comes to opening presents under the tree – or for that matter on her birthday or on Mother’s Day.

Get Her Outside

Most mothers will tell you that spending time with their children or grandchildren is what floats their boat. So how about a gift that allows you to do that in nature. Buy her a pair of women’s hiking boots and get set to take her on a nature walk or country ramble. The nice thing about this gift is that it works on so many levels. She can use them while gardening. They can be used for gentle walks or strolls or for the more energetic mother they can be worn on a serious hike in the mountains. Just make sure that you are able to keep up with her!

Something Scented

Perfume is always a tricky choice because it is very personal and traditionally it is the sort of gift a husband or lover would give. But scented items like candles will always work well. As much as our mothers like spending time with the family there is also something to be said about a bit of quiet time when everyone else is out. Perhaps she’ll run a bubble bath, grab a book and relax and unwind quietly with a calming scented candle burning away to enhance the atmosphere.

Spoil Her

People often say that vouchers are not a good option when it comes to gifting. They say that they lack thought. Sometimes that is the case, but it doesn’t have to be like that. The important thing is that if you are going to go the voucher route then you need to make sure you give her a voucher for something that she wouldn’t ordinarily buy for herself. Maybe a nice meal at a fancy restaurant. Find out what restaurant she really likes or put out feelers to discover a place she has heard of but never been to, perhaps because it was too expensive or because she didn’t want to spend that kind of money on herself. Buy a voucher and she will have to go. It almost can’t fail to work.

Gifts That Keep On Giving

Finally, if she really is the type of mother who has everything, how about a planting a tree in her honour. It doesn’t have to be something you plant in her garden or yours, just buy it and donate it to a local school or hospital or to the council. Arrange to have it planted somewhere nice, preferably where she can see it on a regular basis as it grows bigger and stronger. It’s the classic gift that keeps on giving, and as long as the tree survives, every time she sees it she will always know it was the tree that you gave her!
